Thrall

In Winterwend Thralls were a class of household slaves who surrendered their freedom to avoid capital punishment or as ransom to spare their lives on the battlefield or in single combat. The Thralls were entitled to most of the same protections under the law as common churls and serfs, though the killing of another households thrall was only punishable by paying weregild consisting of a light fine.
